Who we are
Axion Lab is an AI-native sustainability services firm for GPs and their portfolio companies. We are building a new kind of product and service for alternative asset managers – turning high-end sustainability expert work into a continuously available, software-native experience an investment team can actually use.
We deliver decision-ready sustainability outputs tailored for investment committees, boards, lenders, investors and regulators, through a persistent product experience where software, AI and experts work together, rather than isolated projects and static deliverables. The focus is the cross-portfolio sustainability value-creation assessment: for each portfolio company, which actions create or protect EBITDA, what they cost, what to deprioritise and where to allocate capital first and we stay involved to steer the roadmap through the holding period. We also deliver sustainability reviews, due diligence, carbon footprints and decarbonisation reports.
Our platform does the analytical heavy lifting: extracting evidence, structuring data, supporting calculations, benchmarking, identifying gaps and producing first drafts. Our experts bring the judgement, commercial interpretation and accountability that cannot be reduced to generic AI output. Every engagement should make the platform and the knowledge embedded in it better for the next one.
The role
- Make sustainability work commercially and financially legible. Translate sustainability findings into commercial implications for a portfolio company, fund or lender. Assess and challenge estimates of EBITDA at risk, potential new EBITDA, investment requirements and value ranges, and review CAPEX, operating-cost and payback logic where the evidence supports financial framing. Distinguish value creation from value protection, compliance or contractual necessity, without forcing every issue into a financial-upside narrative. Where the evidence is insufficient, define what would be needed before quantification is presented as decision-useful.
- Review and improve the work. Review wording, analysis and methodologies so they read as PE-native and withstand senior scrutiny, keeping sustainability judgement and financial interpretation clearly separated. Provide structured feedback on prototypes, prompts, templates, calculation logic and quality gates, and capture recurring questions, edge cases and examples that should become reusable product and methodology components.
- Support selected client and commercial moments. Join selected scoping, steering or review conversations where your commercial perspective materially improves the outcome. Help prepare for fund meetings and design-partner discussions when the opportunity fits your experience, support the Sustainability Partner with PE-specific objections, buyer language and decision criteria, and help convert successful trials into well-scoped design-partner collaborations.
What we are looking for
- 3+ years of combined experience in value creation, transaction services or portfolio work – e.g., a value-creation or transactions practice at McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Oliver Wyman, Roland Berger or similar, investment banking, or an investment team inside a private equity fund. Mixed backgrounds are very welcome
- Strong understanding of how investment committees, lenders, LPs, portfolio teams and management teams evaluate risk, investment and value-creation claims
- Practical experience framing commercial cases involving EBITDA, operating performance, CAPEX, payback, financing, value protection or transaction outcomes
- A track record of interrogating assumptions and calculations without losing sight of the decision the analysis must support
- Excellent structuring, writing and presentation skills, with a high standard for concise, executive-level communication; you make complex analysis understandable to senior audiences without oversimplifying it
- Experience working with high-stakes client deliverables and senior stakeholders
- Interest in sustainability as a commercial and operational issue for companies and investors; deep technical sustainability expertise is valuable but is not the primary requirement for this role
- Practical experience using generative AI in professional work, or strong evidence of the willingness and ability to learn quickly
- Comfort working in an early-stage environment where product language, workflows and methodologies are still being tested
