Who we are

Axion Lab is an AI-native sustainability services firm for GPs and their portfolio companies. We are building a new kind of product and service for alternative asset managers – turning high-end sustainability expert work into a continuously available, software-native experience an investment team can actually use.

The focus is the cross-portfolio sustainability value-creation assessment and roadmap steering through the holding period. We also deliver sustainability reviews, due diligence, carbon footprints and decarbonisation reports, as add-on offerings.

Our platform combines AI with expert judgement. AI handles the more deterministic parts: data extraction, analysis, modelling, benchmarking and calculations. Sustainability experts focus on the judgement-heavy parts: selecting assumptions and methodologies, interpreting edge cases, challenging conclusions and validating outputs.

The role

1. Deliver projects and learn from delivery

This will be the initial focus.

Scope and deliver engagements for GPs, portfolio companies and lenders, such as clear workplans, robust analysis and decision-ready deliverables that show where sustainability issues create or protect value; you own quality, timing and final presentation
Feed what you learn back into the platform: every project adds to the data flywheel that makes the next delivery faster and better

2. Productise and replicate what works

This will grow as we complete projects together.

Deconstruct consulting approaches into repeatable steps, i.e., what AI can standardise, what must remain expert judgement; and turn them into practical specifications for product and engineering
Turn project lessons into reusable methodologies, prompts, templates, checklists and quality standards, tested against real client work

As one of the first sustainability delivery experts, you will build these foundations directly rather than inherit or manage an existing team.

What we are looking for

5+ years of combined experience in sustainability, ESG, climate or strategy consulting – e.g., at a sustainability consultancy (ERM or similar), a Big 4 firm, a strategy consultancy (MBB or tier-2) or a sustainability role inside a private equity fund. Mixed backgrounds are very welcome.
Practical understanding of private markets, including how GPs, LPs, investment and portfolio teams, lenders and portfolio companies work together, and how their sustainability needs differ across the investment cycle
